Gene Johnson leaves Cypress Ranch for Waller

After nine seasons at Cypress Ranch, Gene Johnson is making the move to be the new head football coach for the Waller Bulldogs. In his nine seasons as Mustangs coach, Johnson guided them to six post-season trips including an appearance in the 2014 State Championship game.

Prior to getting the Cypress Ranch program started in 2010, he was a previous head coach at Fort Bend Hightower from 2005 to 2007 and Klein Forest from 2000 until 2003. In his 16 seasons as a coach, Johnson has accumulated a 138-54 mark with a 20-11 record in the playoffs.

Johnson replaces Jim Phillips at Waller, who spent the last four seasons with the Bulldogs. It was Phillips’s second stint with Waller over his 29 year coaching career. He began his head coaching career with Waller in 2000 and went to Greenville in 2008.
